Pawel Brozek leaves Ross Hall after having his Celtic medical

Brozek had a medical in Glasgow on Monday

Celtic have completed the six-month loan signing of Polish international striker Pawel Brozek.

The deal to take him from Turkish side Trabzonspor proceeded after the player passed a medical.

Manager Neil Lennon hopes Brozek, 28, can relieve some of the scoring burden on Gary Hooper and Anthony Stokes.

“He’s a goalscorer and he’ll hopefully give the squad a bit of a jag. We’re hoping he’ll come in really hungry,” Lennon told BBC Radio Scotland.

Brozek and twin brother Piotr, a defender, spent nine years with Wisla Krakow before both joined Trabzonspor last year.

Capped 32 times, the striker has scored eight international goals.

“He’s had a good record in Poland,” said Lennon. “Things haven’t gone his way in Turkey but he’s got the Euros coming up so he’ll be very motivated to book a place for the Polish squad.”

Rangers had been credited with an interest in Brozek their manager Ally McCoist admitted following Saturday’s 4-0 win against Hibernian that it was “a disappointment” to have missed out on the player.

But he added: “I would use the word ‘target’ a little bit carefully.

“He’s a player we were looking at and – I won’t lie to you – we were sort of interested in but there were no specific bids made and I didn’t have any contact with the player or the agent.

“He’s absolutely well within his rights to do what he thinks is best for himself. There’s no doubt about that.

“It would take a lot more than that to really disappoint me to be honest.”

Brozek will spend the remainder of the season with Celtic

Celtic first-team coach Alan Thompson insisted Celtic’s interest in the player had been some time in the making and hinted that there would be no further moves in or out before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

“I don’t think it’s something that’s just come to the fore in the last couple of days, it’s something that’s been worked on,” he said of Brozek.

“He’s a striker who we’ve known about for a while. He’s much in the mould of Maciej Zurawski so he looks a good player.

“We’re delighted with the squad we’ve got; very, very strong. If this is the squad we’ve got Tuesday night, we’ll be delighted with that.”
